Job description

Job Title: ShovelTechnician
Location:Elk Valley, British Columbia
Base Rate: $62.50 per hour
Overtime (OT): 4 hours daily, paid at $93.75 per hour
Schedule: 14x14 - 12-hour days
Night Shift Premium: $1.25 per hour
Accommodations: Provided at no additional cost to the employee
Flights Paid: Yes, flights provided to the location from any major airport in Canada
Tools & Truck Provided: Yes, fully tooled service trucks
Travel Time: Paid at at 1 hour 1.5x if accommodations are not on-site, up to 8 hours at straight time at each end of your 2-week set
Meal Allowance: $60 per day

Since our founding in 2017, we have grown rapidly to support over 100 employees and operate a fleet of over 30 fully tooled service trucks, providing 24/7 support to our customers.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and career-oriented Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team. In this role, you will primarily work on Komatsu PC 5500 and PC 8000 series shovels, both in the field and in the shop. You will also be required to work on other types of heavy equipment as needed, both in the shop and in the field. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong work ethic, able to efficiently and safely complete tasks while maintaining professionalism with co-workers and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of series of shovels in the field.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and hydraulic adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform necessary repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Document repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities accurately.
  • Work on other types of heavy equipment as needed, including dozers, loaders, graders, and excavators (experience with this equipment is an asset).
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless operations and support.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification (Heavy Duty Off-Road).
  • Red Seal certification required.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent experience in the field, preferably working out of a service truck, diagnosing and troubleshooting hydraulic and electric shovels.
  • Experience with Komatsu PC series and CAT shovels would be preferred.
  • Solid experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with other mining equipment is considered an asset.
  • Experience with other brandssuch as Hitachi, and P&Hwill be considered an asset.

Successful Candidates Must:

  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver's abstract (minor infractions are fine).
  • Pass a Criminal Record Check.
  • Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Be physically fit for heavy lifting and physically demanding work.
  • Not seeking sub-contractor roles (we are not offering sub-contractor opportunities at this time).
