Job summary

SSA Recruitment (CA) is seeking an experienced Shoring Superintendent to lead field operations on deep-excavation projects across Ontario. You will oversee shoring systems, drilling rigs and pile driving, while ensuring compliance with OHSA and project specs.

You will mentor foremen, coordinate with design teams and project managers, and drive safety, schedule and budget performance on complex infrastructure sites.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in shoring, piling or deep excavation with senior role experience.
• Hands-on knowledge of shoring systems, drilling rigs and tieback installation.
• Strong reading of engineered drawings and specs.
• Solid OHSA and Ontario construction safety knowledge.
• Experience managing multiple crews on urban/infrastructure sites.
• Able to read design changes and coordinate with engineers.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel Ontario.
• Proven leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Safety-conscious with supervisory training

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret shoring drawings and specs; coordinate with engineers.
• Oversee drilling, piling and crane ops to meet design tolerances.
• Champion site safety and ensure OHSA/Regulatory compliance.
• Monitor ground conditions and respond to unforeseen site issues.
• Coordinate with PMs, GCs, owners and inspectors; attend meetings.
• Maintain daily reports, installation records and QA/QC docs.
• Mentor foremen and crews to build a safe, productive site culture

Job description

Our client is a leading shoring and underground contractor delivering key support on major infrastructure, transit and tunnelling projects across Ontario. They're looking for an experienced Shoring Superintendent to lead field operations on complex, deep-excavation projects.

What you'll do:

• Lead all on-site shoring operations, including soldier pile and lagging, sheet piling, caissons, secant/tangent pile walls and tieback/anchor installation
• Plan and manage daily work, crews, subcontractors, equipment and materials to keep projects on schedule and budget
• Read and interpret shoring drawings, engineered designs and specifications, and coordinate with design engineers on field changes
• Oversee drilling, piling and crane operations, making sure work is installed to design and tolerance
• Champion site safety and ensure full compliance with OHSA and Ontario Regulations including excavation and trenching requirements
• Monitor ground conditions, groundwater and adjacent structures, and respond quickly to unforeseen site conditions
• Coordinate with project managers, GCs, owners and inspectors, and attend site and progress meetings
• Keep accurate daily reports, installation records, timesheets and QA/QC documentation
• Mentor foremen and crews and build a strong, safe and productive site culture

What you bring:

• 8+ years of experience in shoring, piling, foundations or deep excavation, with at least 3 years in a superintendent or senior foreman role
• Hands-on knowledge of shoring systems, drilling rigs, pile driving and tieback installation
• Strong understanding of geotechnical conditions and their impact on excavation support
• Proven ability to manage multiple crews and subcontractors on fast-paced urban or infrastructure sites
• Confident reading engineered drawings and working closely with design teams
• Solid knowledge of OHSA and Ontario construction safety regulations
• Working at Heights, WHMIS, and Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness training
• Strong communication, problem-solving and leadership skills
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to sites across Ontario
