Job summary

Onstream Inspection, a division of MISTRAS Group Inc., is seeking a Shop Technician to support field operations by ensuring inspection equipment is prepared, maintained, and tested to safety and quality standards in our Calgary-area shop. You will assemble, maintain, and inventory tools, assist with field readiness, and uphold a clean, safe work environment while following PPE and SOPs.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on technical or electromechanical experience.
  • Valid Passport (asset; required for cross-border travel).
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective task prioritization and time management.

Responsibilities

  • Tool Preparation & Maintenance: Build, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on pipeline inspection tools and support equipment per provided quality and build timelines.
  • Follow blueprint diagrams (mechanical/electrical) and complete relevant build checklists.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and basic diagnostics on electrical and mechanical tool systems.
  • Document refurbishment activities in maintenance logs or digital systems, including parts used and work performed.
  • Perform functional tests and QA verifications as required by SOPs.
  • Field Support Preparation: Assist in tool readiness and loading for field deployment.
  • Support field technicians by preparing backup equipment when required.
  • Deliver or collect parts locally as required.
  • Shop & Yard Operations: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
  • Participate in daily/weekly safety meetings.
  • Perform general maintenance of the shop and yard areas as required.
  • Report equipment issues or hazards to the Operations Manager promptly.
  • Identify and report safety concerns, hazards, or near-misses immediately.
  • Follow PPE requirements and conduct pre-use inspections.
  • Maintain a driving record that meets company driver eligibility requirements and adheres to company driving policy and traffic laws.
  • Housekeeping: Ensure all tools, parts, and work areas are cleaned and returned to designated locations at the end of each task.
  • Participate in regular cleaning duties to maintain a tidy and hazard-free shop environment.
  • Assist with upkeep and cleanliness of assigned work and storage areas.
  • Support safe handling of shop chemicals and materials.

As a Shop Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting field operations by ensuring all inspection equipment is prepared, maintained, and tested to meet our high standards of safety, quality, and performance.

This position is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual with mechanical aptitude and a strong work ethic. The successful candidate will contribute to the day-to-day functions of the shop, including equipment assembly, maintenance, inventory control, and operational support, helping ensure that our technicians and clients are equipped for success in the field.

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and tool handling skills.
  • Familiarity with electronics, soldering, and troubleshooting techniques. Strong computer skills and ability to navigate Windows and proprietary software.
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and dependable.
  • Forklift operation experience (asset).
