Job summary

BWXT Canada Ltd. in Cambridge, Ontario, is hiring a Shop Supervisor to lead day-to-day shop activities, ensuring safety, quality, productivity and cost objectives are met.

Reporting to the Focused Shop Manager, you will manage a skilled team and coordinate with engineers to resolve issues. The role requires a technical college diploma and 5–10 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing, with proficiency in Word, Outlook and Excel; SAP experience is an asset.

Qualifications

• College Diploma (Technical, Welding Technician, Fitter, Fabricator, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5 to 10 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel. Experience with SAP is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day shop activities to meet safety, quality, productivity and cost objectives.
• Report to the Focused Shop Manager and supervise shop personnel.
• Coordinate with Schedulers to achieve daily targets and ensure on-time delivery.
• Order special tools and collaborate with design/manufacturing engineers to resolve component deficiencies.
• Manage attendance, time, vacation and performance; provide coaching and discipline as needed.
• Ensure compliance with BWXT procedures and safety objectives.

Position Overview

Our Shop Supervisors lead and supervise the day-to-day activities of the shop personnel and ensure that all company objectives are met in regard to safety, quality, productivity and cost. Reporting to the Focused Shop Manager, all shop personnel

Your Day To Day As Shop Supervisor

Safety Compliance

• Hold safety meetings, perform monthly safety audits and issue work orders to maintenance for any malfunctioning or unsafe machinery.
• Hold toolbox talks at the beginning of each shift to heighten awareness of safety during the work day.
• Perform accident investigations with JHSC and EHS as required, ensure personal protective equipment is in place as well as train employees on the use of personal protective equipment.
• Conduct safe observations through the Dupont Safety Observation Program.

Schedule Achievement

• Know and try to achieve on time delivery.
• Work with Schedulers to achieve daily targets.
• Order any special tools required and work with design/manufacturing engineers to design fixtures and to resolve any deficiencies with components.
• Perform temporary transfers of employees.
• Ensure schedules are communicated to shop personnel and best efforts are conveyed to achieve schedule commitments through ToolBox Talks, Pre-Job Briefings and individual interface(s).

Manage Shop Personnel

• Manage shop personnel according to collective agreement and maintain a professional relationship with employees.
• Manage attendance, time, and vacation of shop personnel and able to perform manual computer inputting to verify employee statuses.
• Provide coaching and issue discipline, as needed.

Cost Objectives

• Monitor production levels at the individual machines.
• Ability to provide computer manual labour inputs with accuracy and recognition of balancing shop needs.
• Develop and initiate cost improvement activities, regularly reviewing productivity reports and discussing the required expectations with employees.

Training

• Ensure all employees are trained in BWXT’s procedures and support quality objectives and safety objectives.

Required Qualifications

Security Clearance

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $85,000 and $126,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
