Qualifications

Position Summary

Are you good with your hands and technically inclined? Join Johnston Equipment as a Shop Mechanic - Master.

The ideal candidate has mechanical, electrical, and some information technology skills. In this role, you will disassemble and overhaul lift trucks in the workshop, prepare trucks for safe shipping, and troubleshoot operational malfunctions. Johnston Equipment provides advanced technical tools to support mechanics, including the latest technology for work orders.

How You’ll Make An Impact

You will be responsible for the overall operational integrity and condition of truck units and will:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair lift trucks, ensuring they are ready for use and delivery in a timely manner
  • Identify defective or worn parts and communicate repair procedures to the customer
  • Rebuild lift trucks, including pressure washing, disassembly, inspection, painting, and assembly
  • Rebuild components such as electric motors, drive units, hydraulic cylinders, and mast assemblies
  • Modify trucks as needed, including welding, fabricating, and turning shafts on the lathe
  • Assist team members with heavier tasks and repairs
What You’ll Bring To The Table
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with 1-3 years of experience in auto, forklift, heavy equipment, or truck mechanics
  • Automotive Technician Certification and Lift Capacity Inspection Technician certification
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems of battery and engine-powered equipment
  • Basic electrical and electronic principles
  • Proficiency with hand tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic tools
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment
