Job summary

X-Group in Canada is seeking a Shop Foreman in Nisku, Alberta to oversee turbine package assembly, fabrication, and testing, ensuring safety and quality while guiding a skilled team.

You will plan work, monitor progress, coach trades and technicians, and coordinate with engineering, QA, and supply chain to meet production targets.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in power generation, industrial power systems, or similar field.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a production or shop environment.
  • Experience with generator systems, power distribution, and control system integration.
  • Proven experience with packaged power systems and unit integration.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Background in troubleshooting and field support for electrical systems.
  • Experience with process improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily shop operations for turbine package assembly and production activities.
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign work to meet schedules and delivery deadlines.
  • Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure all work follows engineering drawings, specifications, and instructions.
  • Lead, coach, and support a multidisciplinary team of trades and technicians.
  • Conduct daily toolbox meetings and communicate clear production goals.
  • Monitor performance and provide ongoing feedback, training, and development.
  • Promote a positive, accountable, and high-performance work environment.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Perform inspections, verify compliance, and address non-conformances.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Assurance and Engineering teams.
  • Enforce safety policies, ensure proper PPE use, and address workplace hazards.
  • Lead incident investigations and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Management teams.
  • Track production progress, ensure resource availability, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all shop-floor activities related to the assembly, fabrication, and testing of turbine packages. This role ensures production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards, engineering specifications, and company procedures, while leading and developing a high-performing team.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Experience:

PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
  • Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to X-Group safety policies and SOPs.
  • PPE: Ability to wear required gear (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, and navigate an active industrial shop floor.
