Job Description

We are seeking a hardworking and dependable Shop Assistant to support our team of heavy-duty technicians. This hands-on position is critical to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate will assist with mechanical tasks, shop organization, parts management, and safety practices to keep the shop running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Vehicle & Equipment Cleaning: Wash and detail heavy trucks, trailers, and shop equipment, including degreasing, polishing, and preparing units for inspection.
  2. Shop & Yard Duties: Shunt trucks in and out of the shop safely and promptly; sweep, pressure wash, and dispose of waste to maintain shop cleanliness; perform yard checks and assist with outdoor maintenance as needed.
  3. Parts & Inventory Support: Perform parts runs to suppliers and dealerships; stage parts for technicians; receive and organize parts shipments, manage inventory, and restock consumables; handle basic shipping and receiving tasks.
  4. Technician Assistance: Move tools, hold components, and assist with day-to-day mechanical tasks; complete basic mechanical work under supervision, such as fluid checks, replacing lights, filters, minor adjustments, and carpentry work like repairing decking.
  5. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and report hazards.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 1 or 3 is an asset)
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude and interest in heavy-duty truck maintenance
  • Strong work ethic and ability to follow instructions
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks
  • Forklift or shop equipment experience is an asset
  • Previous experience in a truck or diesel repair environment is an asset

Note: This reflects the starting range for this position. The actual wage will be determined by the person's qualifications.
