ABOUT THE ROLE
Lafarge is looking for a Shipping Yard/Labourer at our Exshaw AB cement plant. Shipping Yard/Labourers are responsible for covering for a regular Shipper when on leave. When they are not relieving that position, they will be situated in the yard. A shipper is responsible for ensuring finished product is shipped in an efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly way. Labourers are responsible for aiding in all areas of the plant. They participate in housekeeping and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Support the shipment of finished product by truck and rail.
- Provide general housekeeping to all shipping areas.
- Troubleshoot problems as they arise and make appropriate decisions.
- Operate light mobile equipment when required.
- Work in the plant environment (confined spaces, extreme temperature, discomfort, working with hazards – dust, flying particles, falling objects, equipment, shift work, potential and stressful situations).
- Adhere to all plant safety, quality and environmental rules, regulations and policies.
- Receive oral instructions to determine work assignments.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- May assist with minor repairs and maintenance.
- Remove rubble and other debris in the facility.
- Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each task.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School Diploma.
Years of Experience: 1-2 years is preferred.
Required Training/Certifications: Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
Additional Requirements:
- Physical fitness, assessed against the Shipper physical demands analysis.
- Have combination or education, training and/or other experience to competently perform the required work.
- Competent operating a motor vehicle.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Have numeracy skills.
- Have document comprehension skills.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively with others.
- Positive customer orientation.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
