1.The Immediate Organization

This position reports directly to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor. This position has no direct reports.

2.The Purpose of the Job

The objective of the Mechanical Maintenance Department is to provide Mechanical and other Technical services for all company equipment and buildings within budgeted costs, to pursue plant improvements and to improve cost effectiveness.

  • The goal for the department is to achieve less than 2% Mechanical down time. Maintain a clean, safe and efficient workplace without jeopardizing product quality or the environment
  • To efficiently and systematically solve machine related problems
  • Work takes place mainly while the plant is in operation but will also include maintenance and equipment modification during down times
  • To help resolve any recurring maintenance problems with a view to maximizing equipment availability time and efficiency, ensuring this is done within the guidelines of the Ontario Health and Safety Standards
  • The Supervisor may add different tasks each day at his/her discretion.
3.Main Job Tasks
Repair any equipment, e.g. repairs or replacing components of machinery

To provide Mechanical and Technical support to the production line so production can produce a high quality finished product at the highest production rate

  • Have excellent trouble shooting and repair skills in mechanical equipment, Safety, Hydraulics, and Pneumatics
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery
  • Must be able to operate a scissor lift, telescopic boom lift and be able to work at heights safely
  • Have good welding and fabricating skills
  • Must be able to work with all different bearings and systems with troubleshooting and new installs
  • Working knowledge of lubricants and forced lubrication systems. Troubleshoot and replace dust collector bags
  • Be able to track belts, change rollers and install mechanical splice
  • Must be able to perform repairs of Fans, Airlocks, Gearboxes, Pneumatic cylinders, Centrifugal, Positive displacement, Gear plus Diaphragm pumps
  • Must be able to replace Gearmotors and help Electricians with large motor changes
  • Basic machining on Lathe and Mills
  • Be able to do Coupling alignment using laser and understand Vibration Analysis.
  • Repair or replace defective parts
  • Be able to use various hand tools
  • Respond to requests from production staff
  • Thorough understanding of Preventative and Predictive Maintenance
  • Work 12-hour continental shifts or as assigned
  • Must be willing to have flexible break times if called upon to keep the factory producing
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, computer entry and reports
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Investigate and resolve mechanical and process problems, provide technical expertise to the operations department on processes, projects or where required
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor from time-to-time
  • Offer ideas and suggestions for improvements and positive changes
Safety
  • Must be familiar with the potential dangers involved in his/her job and take appropriate safety measures
  • Must be familiar and follow Occupational Health and Safety Act Ontario
  • This job involves working with and around mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and potential energy- must have full understanding of de-energizing and blocking
  • Must have a complete understanding of the lockout procedures and all lock outs that are required when working on equipment
  • Must utilize the Hot Work and Confined Space Permit and follow procedures as set out by the company
Quality
  • Maintaining of equipment to ensure that all products produced meet quality specifications
Environment
  • Maintaining of equipment to ensure that production equipment is performing at highest efficiency levels to minimize any environmental impact
Housekeeping
  • Maintain clean and tidy work areas both within the workshop and around the factory
  • Must clean up your work area before and after a task has been completed or if you are required to leave the job
Operation
  • Industrial Millwrights install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment and associated Hydraulic and Pneumatic Controls
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and safety considerations
  • Maintain, repair, test and install Hydraulic Pumps, Generators, Compressors, Blowers, Racking and Pumps
  • Be able to troubleshoot Air Compressors and Air dryers
  • Conduct Preventative and Predictive Maintenance programs and keep maintenance record
Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records on SAP Work Orders, document daily work activities, and update machine information as changes and alterations are made.
  • Report inventory usage and updates on inventory levels when using parts from stores.

5.Qualifications & Specific Skills
  • Must hold an Ontario Millwright Licence 433A
  • A minimum of Grade 12 with a post-secondary education in a mechanical or technical field
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of valid heavy industrial experience and/or completed an Apprenticeship program in Canada. A college degree will be an asset
  • Have a good command of the English language and read Engineering Drawings
  • Be capable to work with minimal supervision and make informed decisions during shift coverage in a safe manner
  • Be willing and able to work overtime on short notice
  • Work closely as a team with the other trades (and contractors as needed)
  • Own quality tools capable of performing routine tasks
  • Good troubleshooting and housekeeping skills
  • Must be able to communicate well with all departments and must be a team player
  • Drive, commitment, positive attitude and high energy
  • A good understanding of the OHSA Code
  • Basic knowledge of the following: Hydraulic Pumps and Valves, Pneumatics and Low voltage circuits
6.Basic Physical Requirements
Must be capable of performing the following with effective results and with out personal injury:
  • The ability to lift up to 25 kgs
  • The ability to lift up to 50 kgs with another person
  • The ability to shovel heavy waste to shoulder height
  • The ability to use sharp objects in a safe manner
  • Ability to wear protective safety equipment, must be clean shaven for wearing protective respirators
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The job is physically demanding at times. It does require good manual dexterity, good eyesight and good mobility. The position requires a high level of concentration
