In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The commitment to continuous quality and safety improvement is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager or designate, the successful candidate will operate, maintain, and repair building systems and equipment.

This role involves performing trade duties at a journeyman level in one or more construction trade areas. Tasks include building demolition, renovation, construction, and possibly building system operation and/or maintenance. The position may also involve carrying out related administrative duties and supervising designated staff.

The role follows applicable organization policies, procedures, and standards.

Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience
  • Certificate of competency as a 5th Class Power Engineer with Boiler endorsement recognized by the Province of BC.
  • Two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 Vehicle License.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Physical capability to perform duties.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
