Qualifications

  • Completion of Sheet Metal schooling and applicable hours for accreditation.
  • Experience as an Apprentice or Journeyman is required.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Install and fit sheet metal parts using welding equipment.
  • Inspect product quality to ensure conformance to specifications.

Division: Trotter & Morton Building Technologies

Trotter & Morton Building Technologies is a multi-service construction company providing electrical, mechanical and metal work for a wide variety of commercial, civil and industrial building projects.

We are currently looking for Sheet Metal Apprentices (1st - 4th Year) and Journeymen to join our team!

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Read engineering and architectural drawings, sketches and work specifications to be performed, and lay out, measure and mark sheet metal according to drawings or templates
  • Install and use rigging and hoisting equipment
  • Fit and join sheet metal parts using welding and similar equipment to fabricate products such as ventilation shafts, exhaust hoods, air and heat ducts, and material handling systems
  • Install sheet metal products according to specifications and building codes
  • Grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces
  • Inspect product quality and installation to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to show up to work on time every day
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Ability to learn on the job
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to take orders and instructions
  • Good physical condition
  • A mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to lift in excess of 25 kilograms
  • Eye-hand coordination, spatial and form perception, good eyesight and manual dexterity
  • Ability to visualize a finished product from a drawing
  • Ability to stand for long periods, do some moderately heavy lifting and carrying, and work in high, awkward and noisy places
  • Patience, dependability and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a construction or shop environment

Required Experience

  • Sheet Metal schooling and applicable hours for accreditation
  • Apprentice Experience or Journeyman Certificate
  • Commercial experience considered an asset
