As a Sheet Metal Lead Hand, you are responsible for working with tools, organizing fabrication orders, driving a forklift, tracking and filling finished orders, and training/instructing other fabricators. You must also be able to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task with ease. You value a team environment and hold strong beliefs in promoting a positive culture within that team. Reports directly to: Shop Manager

Supervise: 1-10 people in shop at all times

Responsibilities:

1. Daily organization of metal shop including stock, material, consumables, housekeeping issues, etc.
2. Aware of inventory and daily needs as well as projected requirements based on schedule and upcoming work
3. Control of specific tooling (sign out)
4. Inspections – daily, monthly
5. Training employees on shop equipment
6. Receiving daily work orders for shop crew
7. Helping to create shop work orders where required
8. Reporting maintenance issues
9. Following up on maintenance of equipment, etc.
10. Weekly inventory of consumables
11. Quality Control
12. Supervise and lead by example the shop workers, ensuring they utilize safe, proper, and efficient methods in fabricating products according to order specifications
13. Create and manage the production schedule (Order of which fabrication requests are prioritized)
14. Oversee job flow and ensure that a quality and quantity product is shipped complete and on-time
15. Work together with management on the design and assembly of fabricated products
16. Update management, engineers, and customers as required on the status of orders
17. Oversee packaging and shipping of completed fabricated products
18. Oversee raw materials and shop supplies. Provide a requisition to purchasing for materials and shop supplies as needed. Ensure materials and shop supplies are received as ordered and without any damage
19. Assist in the shop as required, helping to move along jobs at various stations
20. Oversee material is being tagged to proper jobs
21. A self-starter and work under minimal supervision

Requirements:

1. Experience with computerized work orders
2. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based software
3. Strong leadership and communication skills
4. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
5. Sheet Metal Experience
6. Fabrication Experience for cladding/roofing materials
7. Basic IT Knowledge /Computer Skills
8. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
