Job description

A Shas Ti Secondary School - 1.0 FTE (Semester One) - Gr. 8-12 School Counsellor / Case Manager - Limited Duration Contract Teacher is required by School District No. 57 (Prince George). Applicants with assessment and trauma-informed practice experience are encourage applications from all qualified individuals including Indigenous Black people of colour all genders 2SLGBTQ and persons with disabilities.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant must have or be eligible for membership in the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch and possess :

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or proof of application).
  • MUST have post-baccalaureate education (i.e. Masters level) in a recognized Counselling program.
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Educations redesigned curriculum and core competencies.
  • Evidence of appropriate qualifications and experience in teaching.
  • A proven ability with assessment as and for learning strategies.
  • Successful experience integrating local Indigenous culture and traditions into curriculum (knowledge of First Nations Principles and the Principles of Truth and Reconciliation).
  • The ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies that can accommodate the learning needs of all learners in an inclusive setting.
  • Successful experience integrating experiential and / or inquiry learning opportunities into the curriculum.
  • Training and successful experience in teaching and supporting social and emotional learning.
  • A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and evidence of strong organization and classroom management skills.
  • A commitment to and successful experience working collaboratively in a team setting.
  • commitment to and demonstrated experience using and integrating technology into the curriculum.
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students staff parents and the greater community.
  • A current valid drivers license and ability and willingness to travel as required.

Compensation

  • Up to $1000 relocation allowance for teachers relocation from within BC; Up to $1500 for teachers relocating from AB SK & MB; and up to $2000 for teachers relocating from all other provinces and out of country.
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $49769 - $95681. Salary is based on TQS and prior experience.
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in Dental Extended Health and Group Life Insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE

About School District 57

School District No.57 resides on the unceded ancestral lands of the Lheidli Tenneh First Nations McLeod Lake Indian Band and the Simpcw First Nations.

Geographically we expand from Mackenzie through Prince George to McBride and Valemount. We serve 41 schools : 32 Elementary schools 8 Secondary schools and 1 District Learning Support center for alternative and alternate learning opportunities.

We provide educational programs for approximately 15000 students inclusive of early learning after school art and sports programing trades programs and dual credit programs with our local post-secondary schools.

We support Lheidli Tenneh students McLeod Lake students and Takla students living on reserve through our Local Education Agreements. With each Nation we co-construct the educational services provided to the students while attending a school within our school district.
