Qualifications

Job description

Sexual Violence Support Counsellor Police & Court Support (PACES)

Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA) is a dynamic agency that provides sexual violence counselling support and education services to Calgary and surrounding areas. Working at CCASA means joining a team of passionate professionals committed to fostering a respectful, open, and inclusive society. As a Sexual Violence Support Counsellor-PACES, you will be part of the Police and Court Education and Support (PACES) team. The successful candidate will be compassionate, dynamic, and flexible, capable of working independently and within a multidisciplinary team to support survivors of sexual assault/abuse engaging with the Criminal Justice System.

This is a full-time (35 hours/week), permanent position reporting to the PACES Program Supervisor. Candidates should have a positive attitude and an anti-oppressive/feminist perspective on sexual violence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing support, information, advocacy, and referrals to individuals navigating the CJS after experiencing sexual violence
  • Assisting clients with crisis and trauma management
  • Preparing and accompanying clients for court proceedings
  • Collaborating with legal professionals
  • Completing documentation promptly
  • Educating professionals and community members
  • Supporting clients through crisis intervention and participating in on-call rotations
  • Working occasional evenings and weekends, with possible travel to rural areas (reliable vehicle required)
Qualifications:
  • Degree in social or human services with at least two years of related experience; a Bachelor of Social Work and registration with a regulatory body preferred
  • Experience with effects of sexual violence on individuals and communities
  • Ability to manage a client caseload, assess, and intervene in crises
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills
  • Creative problem-solving and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to build professional relationships within a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of Calgary community resources and Alberta College of Social Workers' Code of Ethics
  • Understanding of the Criminal Justice System is an asset; registration required if degree is regulated
