Job description

At the Ben-Mor location in Barrie, Ontario, we offer a dynamic, clean and positive work environment in a convenient location. We are growing and looking to add a talented and dedicated Industrial Sewing Machine Operator.

JOB SUMMARY

As the Industrial Sewing Machine Operator (ISMO), you will effectively and proficiently measure, cut and sew various types of materials following all applicable instructions, policies and procedures as provided by Ben-Mor Cables Inc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Operate industrial sewing machine to assemble textile-related products such as lifting slings, cargo restraints, tie-downs, etc.;
  2. Proficiently measure, cut and sew various types of materials using templates, measuring and cutting equipment;
  3. Read and interpret work orders to ensure accuracy and quality of assembly, including selecting woven materials and thread type, and attaching necessary attachments (i.e., hardware, tags, labels, etc.);
  4. Inspect and maintain the industrial sewing machine daily as per the standard operating procedures (i.e., threading machine, changing oil, adjusting tension as required);
  5. Monitor and report on machine operation to detect problems, such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunction;
  6. Accurately record the materials used, maintenance performed, and number of pieces completed during each shift, with focus on maintaining these metrics within production targets;
  7. Maintain a safe environment for employees and visitors by complying with the Company’s safety standards, policies and procedures (i.e., reporting concerns/incidents, wearing personal protective equipment, maintaining good housekeeping of work area(s), etc.);
  8. Perform other related tasks and functions as required by the dictates of the business needs relative to the nature of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Minimum of one (1) year of production and/or manufacturing experience;
  2. Previous experience with sewing is considered an asset – personal or professional;
  3. Familiarity with measurements, measuring tools and interpreting and following instructions;
  4. Excellent time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  5. Good communication skills, both written and verbal;
  6. Manual dexterity and strong attention to detail;
  7. Capability to work effectively and safely in a fast-paced and changing environment;
  8. Must be professional, punctual, reliable and demonstrate a willingness to learn;
  9. Must have ability to regularly lift, lower, carry, push and pull up to 50lbs with rotation;
  10. Must be physically capable of working in various positions for lengthy periods of time (sit, bend, squat, kneel, stand).
