Association for New Canadians is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to the provision of settlement and integration services for immigrants and refugees.

Settlement Social Worker

Location :

St. Johns, NL

Position Type :

1 full-time position until March 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension pending budget availability and satisfactory performance

Reporting and Responsibilities :

Reporting to the Mental Health and Health Services Manager, the Settlement Social Worker will:

  • Provide newcomer refugee families with essential services to support their transition and settlement into Canada.
  • Deliver social work services to support newcomers and foster an accepting, diverse environment.

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' health, mental health, abilities, and needs.
  • Develop and deliver presentations for clients, staff, and community partners.
  • Perform social work with individuals, families, and groups in various settings.
  • Provide crisis intervention and solutions-focused guidance to newcomers facing adjustment difficulties.
  • Collaborate with ANC teams and external partners for coordinated client support.
  • Build trusting relationships respecting cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Maintain follow-up to ensure client engagement with resources and achievement of milestones.
  • Manage case files, statistics, and reports timely.
  • Participate in committees and workshops to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Assess needs and assets of newcomers with disabilities, addressing their unique challenges and strengths.
  • Offer ongoing case management for education, health, therapy, and social integration needs.
  • Facilitate access to specialized services and accommodations for individuals with disabilities.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Bachelor of Social Work and registered Social Worker.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity with diverse clients.
  • Experience working with clients facing trauma, violence, mental health, or addictions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  • Strong communication and team skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and handle crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of child welfare and community development services.
  • Competency in case management and reporting.

Conditions of Employment :

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
  • Flexibility to work outside core hours as needed.
  • Some travel required; valid driver’s license and vehicle access necessary.
  • Subject to criminal record and vulnerable sector checks.
