Course Description:
This course provides a broad overview of the roles of both citizens and professional practitioners in promoting effective public participation in city planning policy-making. Through theoretical frameworks and case studies from Toronto and elsewhere, students will understand how public participation contributes to a healthy democracy and explore the challenges and opportunities faced today. The course aims to equip students with practical knowledge to design inclusive and effective public participation processes, culminating in a project or report for a client.

Class Schedule: Mondays, 6:00pm to 9:00pm
Sessional dates: September 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025
Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I - $9,820.70
Sessional Lecturer I Long-term - $10,510.03
Sessional Lecturer II - $10,510.03
Sessional Lecturer II Long-term - $10,510.03
Sessional Lecturer III - $11,030.35
Sessional Lecturer III Long-term - $11,030.35
*Note: Salary rates may vary according to the collective agreement.*
Qualifications:
- PhD preferred; MA required
- Minimum 5 years university teaching experience
- Experience in marking undergraduate essays
- Evidence of recent teaching effectiveness
- Ability to teach online if needed
Duties include:
Preparing course outline and syllabus, delivering lectures, developing and grading assignments, holding office hours, and providing student feedback.
