Sessional Dates of Appointment: Fall 2025, September to December

Course Title: MHI2008H - Project Management for Health Informatics

Course Description:

This course provides students with an introduction to the theory and practice of project management. It aims to give students a grounding in project management techniques as preparation for practical application. While emphasizing practice, understanding theoretical concepts is also important for health informatics professionals.

The course prepares students to participate in, contribute to, lead, and succeed in health informatics projects. Students will integrate their past or current project experiences with insights from the textbook and supplementary readings to develop new understandings. Additionally, the course connects concepts learned in other foundational health informatics courses.

Objectives:

This course prepares students for careers in health informatics, where work often revolves around projects managed by designated teams. The course will utilize case studies and practical examples. Upon completion, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of project management principles and practices;
  • Apply basic project management techniques and select appropriate tools;
  • Function effectively on project teams of any size and serve as a project manager for small to medium projects.
Course Details:

Class schedule: Online with in-person sessions

Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master’s degree in health informatics or related field;
  • Strong understanding of project management in health informatics and/or health management;
  • Experience in health care information management;
  • Experience teaching graduate courses, preferably in health informatics;
  • Ability to relate to mature students and facilitate group learning;
  • Proficiency with electronic teaching tools (e.g., Learning Management Systems, PowerPoint, online collaboration tools).
Duties:
  • Teach a professional graduate course using competency-based methods;
  • Deliver the course and assess student outcomes;
  • Be available to students outside class hours.
Salary:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
