Course description: This course examines the practice of film criticism. Course includes studies of journalistic and scholarly critical writing, practical sessions of process writing, collaborative editing, and regular film screenings.

Estimated course enrolment: 19 students

Class schedule: Monday 9:00-11:00, Tuesday 9:00-11:00

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1 - December 31, 2025.

Salary:

Sessional Lecturer I: $18,915.79

Sessional Lecturer I, Long Term: $19,861.58

Sessional Lecturer II: $20,243.53

Sessional Lecturer III: $20,725.52

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

  • MA or PhD in Cinema/Film
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching cinema at the university level, specifically film writing and analysis, with a concentration on film criticism
  • At least 3 years of experience marking undergraduate essays in cinema
  • Ability to teach online if public health issues requir

Preferred qualifications:

  • National and international reputation as a film or cultural critic

Description of duties: The Sessional Lecturer will follow the broad outline of the syllabus that has been established for the course, using any textbooks/films that may have been ordered. Revisions and/or updates to the curriculum should be discussed with the Director. They will lecture, grade assignments, hold office hours each week, and answer queries by email or appointment.
