Course Number and Title: ENV338H1S Environmental Research Data and Decision-making

Course Description: Understanding the natural world and human perturbations to it requires data. All data has inherent biases and constraints. In this class we will explore the world of environmental data from the perspective of those interested in affecting positive change. The class will use case studies and current research to explore topics such as: How do environmental scientists design studies or experiments to answer specific questions? How do we characterize the limitations of the data we have and work within these constraints to answer scientific questions and make informed and meaningful decisions?

Estimated TA Support: 90 hours

Class Schedule: Fridays 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 1, 2027 - April 30, 2027

Please note that should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in relevant area of study or equivalent professional and/or academic experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant academic or professional publications and previous experience teaching a similar undergraduate course are highly desirable.
