Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in ECON 2020U – Macroeconomics.

The current schedule is:

Tuesdays 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

AND

Thursdays 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to develop and teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications:

In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.

Required Education:

The successful applicant must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD in Economics

Required Skills:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner
  • High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meets and Kaltura
  • Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System
  • An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
  • An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community

Required Experience:

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have taught economics in an undergraduate university commerce program
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated teaching excellence in an undergraduate commerce or business management/administration program in a post-secondary environment. Candidates can demonstrate their competence by submitting course evaluations and/or formal peer evaluations

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
