Description:

Course number and title: CSC491H1S - Capstone Design Project, LEC5101

Please note, this position is a 0.5 FCE appointment.

Course description: This course is designed and delivered by industry experts from the Software/Tech fields. Students will work with teammates from CSC454H1 to develop a marketable startup on a selected theme. The class will be small and highly interactive. You will work to develop working software industry best practices. You are expected to have experience writing software and be able to learn on the go.

Estimated course enrolment: 40 students

Estimated TA support: one 60-hour TA position for every 30 students

Class schedule: Thursdays 18:00-21:00

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026

Salary: Sessional Lecturer I = $14,125.85; Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term = $15,794.49; Sessional Lecturer II = $15,794.49; Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term = $16,906.58; Sessional Lecturer III = $16,906.58; Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term = $17,440.58;

Please note that if rates in the collective agreement vary from those stated, the rates in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or a closely related field required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the course topic area required.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
  • Teaching experience at the university level or equivalent industry level required.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Previous experience teaching undergraduate courses in Computer Science preferred.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Preparing and delivering lectures in-person as scheduled.
  • Handling course administration: maintaining the course website, developing marking schemes, planning tutorials, assessments, and grading.
  • Providing contact time outside of class via office hours, email, or online platforms.
  • Supervising TAs and managing grading.
  • Invigilating exams and managing grades and feedback.
  • Following faculty-approved course content and assessment methods, consulting with department support as needed.
