Job description

Sessional Lecturer- BIO404H5F: Invertebrate Neurobiology

Course description: Neurobiology, the biological study of the nervous system, investigates the electrical and chemical processes animals use to regulate internal events and interface with their environments. Invertebrates have provided crucial neurobiological insights and are often more accessible study systems than vertebrates. This course addresses some key historical contributions, and discusses the future of invertebrate systems, where recent technological advances are opening up new ways to explore invertebrate neurobiology and evolution. Students will do practicals, using computer simulations of neurons, to develop an understanding of neurons and other excitable cells.

Estimated course enrolment: 375

Estimated TA support: 140 total hours- to be adjusted according to actual enrolment

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $10,510.04

Sessional Lecturer II - $10,510.04

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III - $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $11,030.36

All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Biology or related field. The decision on hiring will be based on previous teaching experience in this course or other similar courses, academic qualifications, ability, and suitability for the position.

Description of duties: Normal duties associated with teaching a university course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, calculation and submission of grades, contact with students by regular office hours. Completion of all grades (may include make-up exams). This course will have synchronous online lectures and tutorials, and the position will include supervision of the day-to-day work of any Sessional Instructional Assistants or Teaching Assistants assigned to the course.
