Job description

Sessional Lecturer- BIO259H5F: Introduction to Biological Data

Course description: This course introduces students to the exploration and analysis of biological data through computation. Students will learn to import biological datasets, parse and manipulate the data, and develop an intuition for basic statistical thinking through practical exercises and lectures.

Estimated course enrolment: 192

Estimated TA support: 280 total hours- to be adjusted according to actual enrolment

Sessional dates of appointment: Sep 1-Dec 31, 2025

Salary (0.5 FCE) (In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement):

Effective September 1, 2025:

Sessional Lecturer I - $9,820.70

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $10,510.04

Sessional Lecturer II - $10,510.04

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III - $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $11,030.36

All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Biology or related field. The decision on hiring will be based on previous teaching experience in this course or other similar courses, academic qualifications, ability, and suitability for the position.

Description of duties: Normal duties associated with teaching a university course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, calculation and submission of grades, contact with students by regular office hours. Completion of all grades (may include make-up exams). This course will have synchronous online lectures and tutorials, and the position will include supervision of the day-to-day work of any Sessional Instructional Assistants or Teaching Assistants assigned to the course.
