Course Description
: This course gives a practical introduction to astronomical observations of the night sky, concentrating on objects that can be seen with the naked eye or with small telescopes. Students will learn to identify objects in the night sky, the properties and designs of small and large telescopes, and to plan and implement astrophotography and observing projects from their backyard.

Salary
:Sessional Lecturer I: $9,820.70, including vacation pay. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications
: Ph.D. in relevant area of Astronomy. Currency and mastery of subject area required as demonstrated by high-quality recent research experience (within the past four years), past teaching experience, and excellence in teaching a similar course. Applicants should demonstrate teaching excellence by providing documentation in the form of student surveys, letters, or other appropriate pieces of evidence. Excellent candidates otherwise considered to be equivalently qualified may be asked to present a sample lecture on a topic from the course, and performance in such a lecture will be considered important in the final assessment.

Description of Duties
: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including but not limited to preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and examinations, calculations and submission of grades, provide direction and supervision of TA's, and holding regular office hours.
