The Professional Health Education Unit with the School of Continuing Education has one of the most diverse offerings of certificate programs and courses in Canada to support health care providers in meeting their professional goals. These education opportunities inspire students through a powerful combination of academic excellence, practical application and personal learning experiences.

Applications are invited for sessional positions to teach with the Critical Care and Emergency Nursing certificate programs. The Critical Care and Emergency Nursing programs challenge students to perform advanced assessments, critical thinking, trauma care, and expert knowledge when working with clients in these specialized areas.

Course topics include but not limited to:

Critical Care System Pathologies:

  • Cardiovascular, Neurological, Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, Renal, and Endocrine systems and related emergency diseases/disorders.
  • Emergency-Specific Conditions:
  • Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Obstetrical, Gynecological, Endocrine, Toxicological, and Musculoskeletal Emergencies.

Courses are offered online asynchronous format and follow the MacEwan University Academic Calendar. We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:

A minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Master’s degree in nursing or a related field is preferred.

  • Specialty certification such as Emergency Nurse Certified (ENC) and Certified Nurse in Critical Care (CNCC) is required.
  • Current and active RN licensure, preferably in Alberta.
  • Clinical or teaching experience in emergency nursing or critical care, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant practice.
  • Familiarity with using a learning management system is an advantage.
