DUTIES

The Physics Department at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) invites applications for a sessional contract starting Sept. 1, 2025. In this teaching -oriented position the successful candidate will create and maintain a positive and engaging learning environment while teaching classes and labs with a particular focus in experimental physics. We are seeking candidates with a passion for teaching, experimental physics and documented track record of excellent communication. This contract will see the successful candidate deliver a lecture of algebra based first year physics, a first year physics lab, a second-year electronics lab to engineers, and labs to upper-level physics students in electronics and optics. Candidates successful in this role will be eligible for right of first refusal for similar courses through the winter term.

Our department is a collection of passionate physics educators interested in inspiring the next generation of physicists. The department offers a BSc major in Physics, and supports Engineering, Respiratory Therapy and Architectural Engineering programs, as well as offering first year Astronomy.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have a Ph. D. in experimental physics or closely related field with teaching experience. Applicants who are close to completing their Ph. D. are welcome to apply and will be considered. The ideal candidate will show evidence of creating and maintaining a positive, engaging learning environment and inspiring students. Accordingly, applicants must demonstrate in their application success in teaching as well as a passion for experimental physics.

a maximum one-page statement of laboratory teaching philosophy

evidence of teaching experience and effectiveness

teaching evaluations (if available)

A 1 paragraph description of your most impactful research to date, written in language a first-year student could understand.

This position is subject to budgetary approval

Applicants should be prepared to supply three references, and official transcripts, but these are NOT required at this time
