The Department of Environment, Culture and Society (ECS) is seeking a sessional instructor to oversee the laboratory sections of GEOG 1000L Planet Earth: An Introduction to Earth System Science in the Fall 2025 semester. The successful candidate will adopt and revise a lab curriculum, train, observe, and supervise Teaching Assistants (TAs) who will deliver the lab curriculum associated with this course. Course materials, including PowerPoint slides and assignments, are available to support the instructor. Weekly in-person meetings with TAs are scheduled according to the instructor and TA contract, representing 2.5 workload credits.
Course Description:
Students examine interactions between the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere, as well as the impact of human activity and sustainable practices on these interactions. The course focuses on the interaction between landscapes and the occurrence, distribution, and movement of water. Topics include landslides, glaciers, rivers, soils, drought, flooding, wildfires, groundwater, and human impacts. Through laboratory and field experiences, students will be introduced to tools and techniques used in the study of Earth processes, including GIS.
