DUTIES
The Department of Environment, Culture and Society (ECS) is seeking a sessional instructor to over the laboratory sections of GEOG 1000L Planet Earth – An Introduction to Earth System Science in the Fall 2025 semester. The successful candidate will adopt and revise a lab curriculum, will train, occasionally observe, and supervise the Teaching Assistants (TAs) who will deliver the lab curriculum associated to this course. Course materials, including power point slides, assignments, are available to support the successful candidate. In person weekly meetings with teaching assistants are according to instructor and teaching assistant availability.This contract represents 2.5 workload credits.
The course description is as follows:
Students examine the interactions between the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere as well as the impact that human activity and sustainable practices have on these interactions. Course content focuses on the interaction between landscape and the occurrence, distribution and movement of water. Topics include landslides, glaciers, rivers, soils, drought, flooding, wildfires, ground water and the impact of human activity on these phenomena. Through laboratory and field experiences, students will be introduced to tools and techniques used in the study of Earth processes including GIS.
QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in Geography, Environmental Studies, or discipline sharing similar quantitative data analysis methods required; PhD candidates and/or relevant Master’s Degrees with professional experience that contributes to engaged scholarly teaching will be considered.
Demonstrated teaching ability and expertise in the area of specialization.
