DUTIES

The University and Employment Preparation Department at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for sessional lecturer to teach the following course in the Education Skills Training Program (ESTR) in Winter 2025: ESTR 0090 Workplace Math); ESTR 0380 (Advanced Topics, Kitchen Assistant)

ESTR 0090 (Workplace Math, 44 hours, Mondays):Students develop the math skills required in a workplace environment. The course content is individualized to meet the needs of students, and related to their area of occupational skills training (kitchen, retail or automotive worker). The topics include measurement, fractions, percent, and money.

ESTR 0380 (Advanced Topics, Kitchen Assistant, 44 hours, Tuesdays):This course is intended for those students who have completed the core courses of the ESTR program and are continuing in one of the occupational skills training areas. Emphasis on topics that will enhance an individual's ability to keep a job and plan for long term career success will be emphasized. Students will learn what today's employers expect of their employees and how to behave to be able to meet these demands successfully.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or a Red Seal in a relevant field required
  • At least one degree in Adult Accessible Education or similar field required
  • Teaching Certificate or Instructor’s Diploma or 5 years teaching experience required
  • Experience teaching adults whose educational, social, cognitive, emotional and economic backgrounds are diverse, and for whom previous school experience may have been challenging required
  • Demonstrated evidence of scholarly teaching required
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in Adult Accessible Education courses preferred
  • Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) preferred
  • Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) preferred
  • Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) preferred
