Job description

We are looking for the visionaries, the change-makers, the self-starters who are seeking more from their career. Change begins with the small decisions we make, each day, to support each other and strive to create inspiring incredible educational experiences for all students, no matter where they are or how they learn. This concept connects deeply to the idea that, in choosing a career with Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, you will have the opportunity to push boundaries, flex your creativity and inspire positive change for so many people. It’s also a call-back to the transformative power of education itself.

Our core values put the student experience at the center of what we do, reflecting who we are and aspire to be. If you want to shine a light on academic excellence, be empowered to make an impact on the transformation of the Canadian post-secondary education landscape, and work collaboratively beyond levels, join us.

Who we need

Yorkville University’s Faculty of Education, based in New Brunswick, offers students a distinctive blend of asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences. The fully online Master of Education program is designed to support individuals committed to making a difference through teaching and learning.

We are seeking a Sessional Faculty to teach one section per seven-week term in the online Master of Education program. Faculty should be available for approximately 12–15 hours per week to facilitate online discussions, assess student work asynchronously, and periodically lead synchronous sessions on a flexible schedule. Course section assignments are based on student enrollment and are determined each term.

While our degrees are offered with specializations in Adult Education, Leadership in Learning, and Educational Administration, we have an immediate need for applicants with expertise in the following areas: curriculum studies; curriculum and instruction; and curriculum and pedagogy.

What's in it for you

Impact. Joining us at this juncture offers a significant opportunity for established academics who are passionate about cultivating the next generation of education leaders. You will deliver advanced, engaging courses as part of a high-quality program. Future opportunities may include Course Lead and course development, allowing you to shape the pedagogical direction of our offerings.

Flexibility. You are seeking an opportunity to engage with the virtual classroom, contributing your expertise, in a digital academic environment that supports scholarly dialogue, rigorous assessment, and dynamic teaching, on a schedule that aligns with your academic and personal commitments. You are drawn to an institution that values action, fosters innovation, and strives for educational transformation.

Fulfillment. Yorkville University’s Faculty of Education promotes rigorous study and its innovative application as it prepares students to support development in schools, workplaces, and community contexts. We value the rich experiential knowledge that leads individuals to higher education, and we are committed to cultivating learning spaces that position those experiences as co-curricular.

As our new Sessional Faculty, Master of Education Program, you will:

  • Teach. You will deliver expertly developed and intellectually rigorous course material. You will assess student performance with fairness and insight, and you will foster a welcoming, inclusive learning environment aligned with our commitment to student success. Your teaching will reflect inclusive practices that honour the diverse experiences and learning needs of all students.
  • Foster inclusive, engaged learning. You will support student development by nurturing a space in which learners actively engage with each other, with course content, and with the broader academic community. Your approach to assessment will incorporate multiple effective strategies to assess and support learning. You will utilize the University's learning management system (Brightspace), along with digital and classroom technologies, to enrich the learning experience.
  • Grow your influence. You will contribute to University and program-level committees and support essential administrative functions related to your course. You will model intellectual curiosity and scholarly rigour, staying informed of the latest developments in your discipline. You will support strategic program development with both practical experience and academic insight.

You have:

  • The academic background. You hold a PhD in Curriculum Studies, Curriculum Development, Education, or a related field. You have a robust record of published research in your area of specialization.
  • The graduate-level supervisory experience. You have experience supervising graduate research and have served as a supervisor or committee member for Master’s and/or Doctoral theses.
  • The course delivery experience. You bring experience teaching graduate-level Education and Curriculum Studies courses within asynchronous online environments. You bring expertise in cross-cultural, interdisciplinary approaches and the application of contemporary educational theory.
  • The interpersonal skills. You are an exceptional communicator, capable of adapting your style to meet the needs of diverse learners and colleagues. You excel at fostering engagement in both online forums and virtual classrooms. You build trust, influence decision-making, and inspire growth through mentorship and academic leadership.

  • A place where all individuals feel welcomed in the academic and workplace environments and can bring their authentic selves to the educational and work spheres. We celebrate the full range of human diversity and we acknowledge that equal access to opportunities and services may require the removal of barriers that equity-seeking communities experience in trying to obtain this access.
  • The opportunity to grow with access to free courses, certifications and programs - right up to our Masters' offerings.
