An established educational institution is seeking a sessional instructor for a course on contemporary building construction. This role involves teaching students about materials and methods used in construction, with a focus on sustainability. The instructor will lead a three-hour weekly class, engage with students, and assess their work through assignments and exams. This course introduces the student to the common materials and methods applied in contemporary building construction. Discussion will involve how the different materials are manufactured, used, and eventually disposed of, including evaluation of sustainability at each step. Field trips will be taken to see how materials are used in the field. This course is available in the fall semester only.
The sessional instructor will be entirely responsible for the teaching and marking for this lecture only class. Class time is three hours per week. The instructor must also be available at predetermined times during the week to answer student questions outside of the scheduled class times. The sessional instructor is responsible for marking of all assignments, quizzes and exams for the course. Regular meetings with other ARET faculty are also required.
The successful candidate will be a Civil or Building Technologist, Intern Architect, Architect, Engineer in Training or Engineer with detailed experience in the construction of buildings. Some teaching experience or teaching assistant experience would be an asset, as would experience with AutoDesk Revit software.
