Job summary

Alberta AG Centre is seeking a Service Manager to lead the Service Department, drive shop performance, mentor technicians, and uphold safety standards. You will coordinate with parts, manage tooling, and ensure efficient, quality work across our locations.

This role requires strong leadership and a deep knowledge of agricultural equipment. The role includes on-site leadership with occasional travel (up to 25%) to support multiple locations, and it offers full benefits and access to company tools

Qualifications

  • Agricultural Equipment Technician certification or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Strong agricultural equipment knowledge; dealership experience is an asset.
  • Experience leading and coaching people in a service environment.
  • Positive, collaborative team player with excellent communication.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Own overall performance of the Service Department, including productivity, quality, and shop throughput.
  • Assign and prioritize work to technicians based on skill level and urgency.
  • Review completed work for quality and technical accuracy.
  • Serve as escalation point for complex diagnostic or repair issues.
  • Coordinate with parts department on parts availability for scheduled work.
  • Mentor technicians and apprentices; support training and certification requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized shop environment and act as on-site safety authority.
  • Manage shop tooling and equipment; ensure calibration and availability.

Role Overview

The Service Manager provides leadership and accountability to Alberta AG Centre’s Service Department. This position is responsible for the overall performance of shop operations, technician development, and safety, ensuring the department runs efficiently and meets performance targets. The role requires strong leadership ability, sound business judgment, and deep agricultural equipment knowledge.

Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Department Performance
  • Own overall performance of the Service Department, including productivity, quality, and shop throughput
  • Assign and prioritize work to technicians based on skill level, workload, and urgency
  • Review completed work for quality and technical accuracy
  • Serve as point of escalation for technicians on complex diagnostic or repair issues
  • Liaise with other locations and departments as needed
  • Process technician timecards for payroll
  • Work with Human Resources on people development and issues, including ongoing performance management for service staff, regular mentorship, coaching and feedback, KPI tracking, culminating in a formal annual performance review
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized shop environment
  • Serve as the on-site safety authority in accordance with the company OHS Program
  • Mentor technicians, including apprentices, on diagnostic and repair procedures
  • Support delivery of technical training and certification requirements
  • Management of shop tooling and equipment ensuring proper maintenance, calibration, and availability
  • Coordinate with the parts department on parts availability for scheduled and in-progress work
Customer Relations
  • Communicate with customersregardingservice needs, estimates, and payments
  • Answer phones, greetwalk‑incustomers, and support general office operations
  • Support planning oflocation‑specificcompany events

All other duties as assigned; this list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties as management deems necessary from time to time.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, and move through shop environments for extended periods wearing PPE in the Shop
  • Ability to climb on and around equipment to conduct quality control checks and inspections
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move tools, parts, or materials up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving or working at a desk/computer
  • Ability to occasionally perform hands‑on diagnostic, repair, or inspection work in a shop setting
  • Visual acuity sufficient to assess equipment condition and identify quality or safety issues during inspections
Competencies & Qualifications
  • Agricultural Equipment Technician certification (or equivalent trade ticket), or significant equivalent hands‑on service/mechanical experience in agricultural or heavy equipment
  • Strong agricultural equipment knowledge, with previous dealership experience considered an asset
  • Previous leadership experience with the ability to manage or coach people
  • Positive team attitude, strong work ethic with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Solid understanding of safety standards and practices in a shop/field environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel
