Job summary

Community Living Society in Vancouver is seeking a Service Coordinator for the Independent Living program. You will plan and implement learning opportunities, facilitate activities, and support social connections and independence for adults with developmental disabilities.

This role requires a Class 5 license, First Aid/CPR, a reliable vehicle, and prior experience in coordinating group activities. CLS offers a supportive team, ongoing training, and competitive wages starting at $30.70 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Class 5 driver’s license (permanent staff must be willing to obtain a Class 4 license)
  • Prior paid or volunteer experience in planning and facilitating group activities that promote social inclusion, skill development, independence, and community participation.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Clear criminal record (paid by CLS)
  • Access to a reliable vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Actively solicits input from Supported Individuals to determine priorities for learning opportunities and activities.
  • Attends and/or reviews ISQLP meetings to determine priorities or common themes.
  • Researches and identifies community opportunities and resources that could be accessed or used to address properties.
  • Assembles and maintains an active inventory of resources and materials for easy access by the IL Supported Individuals and staff.
  • Develops a plan of regular learning sessions, activities and events that support the priorities and mandate of the program.
  • Organizes, facilitates and delivers learning opportunities, activities and events.
  • Helps to screen and onboard new tenants for units available through CLS’s Housing Partnership.
  • Maintains ongoing contract with Housing Providers to support and foster good working relationships.
  • Problem solves issues that arise between the Supported Individuals and the Housing Provider.
  • Provides support to and helps facilitate the Self-Advocates Committee.
  • Provides direct support in learning sessions, activities and events, where appropriate.

Job description

The Community Living Society (CLS) is an innovative non-profit organization which since 1978 has been dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities so that they can live full, productive and meaningful lives. We have over 500 employees and work with over 400 individuals throughout the Lower Mainland.

About the Opportunity

With the support and oversight of the Manager of Independent Living, The Service Coordinator takes a macro view of the Independent Living (IL) program in two main areas; service and housing. The Service Coordinator identifies, plans and implements learning opportunities, activities and events that respond to the wishes and needs of the individuals supported by the program. They facilitate meaningful and enriching activities that focus primarily on building skills for independence and supporting social connections and belonging in the community. The Service Coordinator helps to support and maintain the partnerships with Housing Providers. Some of your duties can include:

  • Actively solicits input from Supported Individuals to determine priorities for learning opportunities and activities (e.g. meetings, surveys, phone calls, CLS Self-Advocate Committee, etc.).
  • Attends and/or reviews ISQLP meetings to determine priorities or common themes (e.g. banking, nutrition, cooking, lack of social connections, etc.).
  • Researches and identifies (virtual and in-person) community opportunities and resources that could be accessed or used to address properties (e.g. community kitchens, trainers, etc.).
  • Assembles and maintains an active inventory of resources and materials for easy access by the IL Supported Individuals and staff.
  • Develops a plan (e.g. calendar) of regular learning sessions, activities and events that support the priorities and mandate of the program.
  • Organizes, facilitates and (at times) delivers learning opportunities, activities and events.
  • Helps to screen and onboard new tenants for units available through CLS’s Housing Partnership.
  • Maintains ongoing contract with Housing Providers to support and foster good working relationships.
  • Problem solves issues that arise between the Supported Individuals and the Housing Provider.
  • Provides support to and helps facilitate the Self-Advocates Committee.
  • Provides direct support to Supported Individuals attending or participating in learning sessions, activities and events, where appropriate.
  • Provides direct support in an emergency or at the request of the Manager.
