Job summary

The Community Living Society is seeking an ASL-fluent Assistant Coordinator to support the Coordinator in administration, team leadership and home-based services for adults with disabilities. The role centers on person-centered active support and fostering meaningful daily activities.

You will engage individuals, coordinate schedules, and help with documentation, community outings and life goals, while ensuring a safe, inclusive environment. Starting wage is $27.80 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
  • Class 5 driver's license; willingness to obtain Class 4 if permanent staff.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Coordinator with administration and financial tasks.
  • Encourage and motivate a team of Counsellors.
  • Support individuals with various life goals and home-based duties.
  • Coordinate home support tasks (personal care, meal prep, light housekeeping) and logs.
  • Organize community outings, volunteering, and paid employment activities.
  • Maintain records of daily activities and progress toward goals.
  • Coach and mentor staff in appropriate support techniques.

American Sign Language (ASL) - Assistant Coordinator - Staffed Homes

The Community Living Society (CLS) is an innovative non-profit organization which since 1978 has been dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities so that they can live full, productive and meaningful lives. We are leaders in providing quality Person Centred support through our residential, individualized and community based supports so that people can reach their greatest potential. We have over 500 employees and work with over 400 individuals throughout the Lower Mainland.

About the Opportunity

Your role as a Community Living Counsellor, Assistant Coordinator will be to provide support to the Coordinator in all aspects of administration, team leadership, and home support. You will work closely with the team to provide meaningful and role-model Person-Centered Active Supports. Some of your duties can include:

  • Provide support and engage individuals to live as full citizens
  • Supporting the coordinator with administrative and financial tasks
  • Encouraging and motivating a team of Counsellors
  • Supporting individuals with various life goals
  • Home support duties (including, but not limited to personal care, bathing, bathroom support, meal preparation and light housekeeping)
  • Community outings (including, but not limited to volunteering, paid employment and leisure activities)
  • Maintaining records of daily activities and goal progression
  • Coaching, role-modeling and mentoring your team in appropriate support techniques

About You

You are interested in supporting others and show an understanding of the person-centered and active support approach. Additionally, you have the following requirements:

Required:
  • Fluency in ASL (American Sign Language)
  • Class 5 driver’s license (permanent staff must be willing to obtain a Class 4 license)
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Clear criminal record (paid by CLS)
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
Assets:
  • Ability to maneuver a wheel chair
  • Experience high behavioral support
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training
  • Knowledge of Person Centered Active Supports
