Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Server (Dining Room Care Manager) is responsible for providing dining and table services to residents in the community’s dining rooms and designated areas in accordance with Sunrise Senior Living standards. The Server (Dining Room Care Manager) is responsible for serving as a role model in providing dining service and assisting training care managers, maintaining proper dining room set up, assisting in special events, monitoring appropriate checklists in support of the dining area cleanliness and readiness standards, and assisting in tabletop inventories maintenance. Responsible for handling all food and beverages in accordance with sanitary procedures and standards and complies with all federal, state/provincial, and local regulatory procedures regarding food service.
Note: Monday & Thursday 4pm to 8pm is the listed schedule for this role.



  • General Dining Service: Provide support in the day-to-day operations of the dining room while maintaining a high quality, positive, and safe physical and social environment for residents and fellow team members.

  • Provide dining service training to new care managers.

  • Maintain knowledge of Daily and Always Available Menu items and provide general descriptions to residents.

  • Assist residents with menu selections and respond to pertinent questions about menu items.

  • Take meal and beverage orders and serve requested items according to established guidelines.

  • Respond to the dining needs of residents while maintaining Sunrise hospitality and service standards.

  • Attend pre-meal briefing to gain knowledge of the meal and meal support activities.

  • Follow all local, state/provincial, and federal policies regarding food handling.

  • Maintain standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and health standards.



  • General Dining Room: Perform dining room checklist inspections for cleanliness and readiness; adjust as needed to maintain quality standards.

  • Maintain side work duties as assigned.

  • Keep assigned tables and surrounding areas clean, presentable, and ready.

  • Ensure dining room set-up and re-set of tables align with procedures.

  • Support dining room decorum and etiquette standards.

  • Complete opening and closing checklist criteria.

  • Assist in tabletop inventories maintenance.



  • Resident Services: Review, read, notate, and initial the Daily Log to document and learn pertinent information; Review Resident Diet Book-TSD or confidential chart; Maintain confidentiality of resident information.



  • Food Safety and Sanitation: Practice safe food handling, complete daily/weekly/monthly cleaning, maintain healthy work areas, and assist in proper directional flow and supplies placement.



  • Risk Management and General Safety: Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, promote Risk Management policies, and follow safety rules; Practice safety procedures including PPE, fire extinguishers, SDS, and Lockout Tagout.



  • Training and Contributing to Team Success: Act as a team member, demonstrate our Team Member Credo, serve residents and guests through Principles of Service, contribute to engagement programs, attend regular meetings, maintain required training as applicable, and perform other duties as assigned.



  • Core Competencies: Ability to handle multiple priorities; strong written and verbal communication; good organizational and time management skills; good judgment, problem solving, and decision-making skills.



  • Experience and Qualifications: High School diploma or GED; minimum of one year experience in fine dining hospitality and/or full-service senior living preferred; must be Food Safety Certified within 90 days; CPR and First Aid, ServeSafe certifications (ongoing training as required); drivers of Sunrise vehicles must sign the Driver job description where applicable.
