Job summary

Canoe Restaurant & Bar in Toronto is hiring Server Assistants to support the Front of House by ensuring mise en place, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction. You’ll work under the Front of House Management Team, help Servers, and maintain a high standard of service across a fast-paced dining room.

The role requires at least 1 year in a busy restaurant, weekend/evening availability, a valid Smart Serve, and a calm, detail‑oriented approach.

Qualifications

• 1 year experience in a fast-paced restaurant
• Weekend availability (evenings/holidays)
• Valid Smart Serve Certification
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Able to work under pressure in a busy setting

Responsibilities

• Inspect tables for proper mise en place and cleanliness
• Assist with food running and correct plate delivery
• Communicate with Servers and Hosts to maximize seating
• Maintain high floor awareness and cleanliness
• Follow all food safety standards and dispose of garbage properly
• Relay guest comments to servers to ensure a positive experience

Job Description

Under the direction of the Front of House Management Team, Server Assistants provide support to Servers by inspecting all tables for the proper mise en place, cleanliness and completeness. They practice a high level of floor awareness and have exceptional knowledge of all food and beverage items.

The day to day:

• Answer questions about food, beverages, wine and other restaurant functions and services when necessary
• Assist with food running, ensuring that plates arrive to the proper guest (no auctioning off)
• Communicate with Servers and Hosts to maximize seating
• Practice a high level of floor awareness and clear/clean as required
• Follow all food safety standards and systems
• Empty garbage, change linen bags and dispose of garbage and recycling
• Communicate to all Servers any comments or information provided by guests to ensure a positive, memorable experience
• Other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications

• 1 year previous experience in a fast paced restaurant environment
• Weekend availability/ evening/ Holiday
• Valid Smart Serve Certification, required.
• High attention to detail
• Ability to remain calm under pressure while working in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to take direction and prioritize
• Strong oral communication skills
• High level of product knowledge
• Ability to maintain a level of professional urgency and momentum
• This is a full time position
• Legally eligible to work in Canada
