Job summary

• The candidate must maintain up-to-date knowledge of all Precinct activities, assess potential security risks, prepare appropriate security response plans, deliver briefings on Precinct activities, and deploy Constables and Safety Officers to mitigate risks or respond to direct security threats or violations.
• The candidate must monitor security requirements and the evolving needs of the Legislative Precinct, provide security expertise, and advise staff of deficiencies or violations.
• The candidate must apply problem-solving, mediation techniques, and preventive measures to deescalate incidents.
• The candidate must coordinate security operations and assist with security for activities within the Precinct, including official ceremonies, meetings and/or press events, public rallies, demonstrations, special events, and staff-related activities.
• The candidate must manage inventory and equipment needs for safety and security.
• The candidate must manage team scheduling and evaluate staffing to optimize effectiveness.
• The candidate must act as a liaison between Sergeant-at-Arms leadership and employees, using open and transparent communication strategies to ensure consistent messaging across all levels of the organization and improve information sharing and team collaboration.
• The candidate must provide guidance and support to employees through change initiatives, identify potential challenges and risks, develop strategies to mitigate resistance to change, and foster a culture of adaptability and resilience.

• The candidate must have knowledge of language and communication techniques used in report preparation and verbal presentation.
• The candidate must demonstrate excellent service orientation and results-focused management skills, along with a strong commitment to service excellence.

• The candidate must be able to maintain the required level of First Aid as determined by the employer.
• The candidate must meet the criteria for appointment as a Special Provincial Constable under the Police Act, including the Basic Occupational Requirements of the British Columbia Legislative Assembly Protective Services.
• The candidate must be able to meet the firearms/use of force criteria, including Baton Qualification Training standards, Handgun Qualification Training standards, and Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Qualification Training Standards.
• The candidate must be able to supervise staff responsible for providing security to persons and property in an environment with potential for violent activity.
• The candidate must be able to communicate effectively and interact professionally and courteously with MLAs, officers and staff of the Legislature, and the public, and represent the Assembly in a professional manner.
• The candidate must demonstrate discretion, tolerance, tact, initiative, and effective judgment, along with emotional intelligence and personal and environmental awareness in rapidly evolving situations.
• The candidate must be able to establish appropriate control of difficult or dangerous situations, problem solve and mediate, make effective decisions quickly, and determine when additional assistance is required.
