Job Summary:

The Seniors Helping Seniors Program Coordinator will coordinate events and programs as well as collaborate with community partners to deliver services to seniors in the community. They will also be responsible for the recruitment, management, training and supervision of volunteer seniors providing these services and programs.

Reports to:

Better at Home Coordinator

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to inquiries about the program from volunteers or prospective participants.
  • Support volunteers in the program delivery to ensure the needs of all clients are met through services and referrals are made where needed.
  • Organize and facilitate volunteer meetings and appreciation events as required.
  • Match clients with volunteers to facilitate lasting relationships.
  • Collaborate on events such as seasonal group social meals for seniors in the community.
  • Liaise with referring agencies and other community partners such as the Community Connector, Better at Home, Healthy Kimberley, and other local organizations
  • Attend conferences and promotional events as required and promote the Seniors Helping Seniors program in the community
  • Manage training, scheduling and maintenance of the Cycling without Age program.
  • Supervise expenditures within existing budgets and reconciliation.
  • Fundraising including researching and applying for local, provincial and federal grants
  • Ensure all documentation regarding client and program records are accurate, and that confidentiality and standards are maintained.
  • Report to all funders as required through accurate electronic reports
  • Review, manage and maintain electronic files regularly to standards

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Minimum 2-year diploma in a related field such as health, social services, volunteer or business management.

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • An understanding of, and experience with, seniors’ issues and the communities in which they reside.
  • Competency of basic computer software including Microsoft suite programs.
  • Written communication skills including grant writing, business communications and presentations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral communication skills.
  • Good organization, time, and general management skills to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability and experience to work with all aspects of volunteerism including training, supervision, evaluation, acknowledgement, and appreciation.
  • A thorough understanding of the communities served.
  • Sensitive and responsive to seniors and their diverse needs, gender, and cultural differences.
