Job summary

Platinum Trailers is seeking an experienced Welder/Fitter in St. Marys, ON for full-time, on-site work. You will perform production welding and custom fabrication across varied projects, moving between standard assemblies and prototypes.

The role requires 5+ years of welding and fitting in heavy equipment environments, with MIG welding as a baseline and TIG as an asset. Wages are $28-$36/hr with benefits and overtime options.

Qualifications

• MUST HAVE 5+ years of welding and fitting experience in a fabrication, trailer, or heavy-equipment environment.
• Proficiency in aluminum and steel welding - MIG required, TIG a strong asset.
• Strong fitting skills: read drawings, lay out parts, check tolerances, and build accurate assemblies.
• Experience in both production and custom fabrication settings.
• Ability to build, modify, or work with jigs and fixtures to support repeatability.
• Comfortable with prototyping, one-off builds, and solving fit-up challenges on the fly.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and fabrication sketches for both production builds and custom projects.
• Fit, assemble, and weld aluminum and steel components with precision - proper alignment, tolerances, and structural integrity every time.
• Perform production welding on repeat-run trailer components while maintaining consistent quality and efficiency.
• Support custom fabrication and prototyping by building one-off parts, test assemblies, and new design concepts.
• Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to solve fit-up challenges and refine prototype designs.
• Select appropriate welding processes (MIG/TIG) and parameters based on material type, thickness, and project requirements.
• Use jigs, fixtures, and measuring tools to ensure accurate fit-up and repeatability.
• Operate fabrication equipment including saws, torches, grinders, hoists, and welding machines.
• Inspect welds and assemblies against internal quality standards and customer specifications.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area - proper PPE and safety procedures are non-negotiable.
