Senior Application and Web Administrator

Location: Dublin (Hybrid)

Salary: Up to €80,000

Hours: Full-time, Mon–Fri

We’re hiring for a Senior Application and Web Administrator to join a growing technical team (expanding from 6 to 7 members) supporting mission-critical web infrastructure. This is a hybrid role that sits between a traditional DBA and a developer-ideal for someone with strong infrastructure experience who thrives in cross-functional environments.

This role involves end-to-end ownership of web services infrastructure - including full setup and deployment (not just maintenance) of systems like Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, and Kafka - in support of Progress OpenEdge databases and applications. You’ll work closely with our Linux and development teams to drive automation, performance, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and manage Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, and Kafka environments from the ground up.
• Maintain and renew SSL/TLS certificates, currently on a 45-day cycle.
• Oversee and optimize reverse proxy configurations and traffic routing.
• Collaborate with the database team working on Progress OpenEdge, ensuring web services align with application needs.
• Implement and tune monitoring and observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Plan and apply patches and upgrades for web services with minimal downtime.
• Use Ansible (and YAML) for automation, configuration management, and deployment scripting.
• Maintain detailed documentation for web service configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and architectural decisions.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience in setting up and deploying Apache, Tomcat, Kafka, etc. (not just managing pre-existing setups).
• Strong Linux background and experience supporting web applications in production environments.
• Proficiency with SSL certificate management, including automation workflows.
• Solid understanding of reverse proxies and how they interact with application architecture.
• Experience working with observability tools like OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or Prometheus.
• Competency in Ansible for automation and configuration.
• Familiarity or experience with Progress OpenEdge, PostgreSQL, or Oracle is a plus.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across teams.
