GEI Consultants Canada Ltd. in Markham, Ontario is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to lead and mentor a growing team on land development and municipal projects.

You will apply hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, design stormwater facilities, and coordinate with clients, municipalities, and agencies to advance approvals, while delivering high-quality reports and drawings. If you bring 5–10+ years of experience and a P.Eng.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of progressive professional experience in water resources engineering.
• Licensed P.Eng. in Ontario, or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario.
• Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and Ontario standards.
• Experience with PCSWMM, Visual OTTHYMO, and HEC-RAS; HEC-RAS 2D is an asset.
• Proficiency with Civil 3D and ArcGIS; dual drainage modelling in PCSWMM is required.
• Ability to prepare concise reports, calculations, and submissions; lead multidisciplinary teams.

GEI Consultants Canada Ltd. is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our growing Land Development practice in Markham, Ontario. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional with 5–10+ years of relevant consulting and engineering experience who is ready to take on greater technical leadership, project responsibility, and mentorship within a collaborative and growing team.

In this role, you will lead and contribute to a diverse portfolio of water resources and land development projects for residential, industrial, commercial, and municipal clients. You will apply your technical expertise across hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, stormwater management, water balance, natural channel systems, and low-impact development while helping guide projects from early-stage due diligence and planning through detailed design and agency approvals.

Beyond technical delivery, you will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and EITs, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of GEI's Water Resources practice.

As a Senior Water Resources Engineer, you will:

• Lead and deliver water resources components of complex land development and municipal infrastructure projects, working closely with senior management and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Undertake hydrologic and hydraulic analyses throughout all phases of project development, from conceptual servicing and due diligence through preliminary and detailed design.
• Develop, review, and apply hydrologic and hydraulic models to support stormwater management, floodplain analysis, water balance assessments, natural channel design, and infrastructure planning.
• Lead the planning and detailed design of stormwater management facilities, drainage systems, low-impact development measures, and related water resources infrastructure.
• Complete and oversee feature-based water balance assessments and continuous hydrologic modelling.
• Support natural channel assessments, realignment designs, and hydraulic analyses, including 1D and 2D modelling where applicable.
• Prepare and review technical memoranda, Functional Servicing Reports, Stormwater Management Reports, Master Environmental Servicing Plans, Subwatershed Studies, design briefs, construction drawings, specifications, and supporting technical documentation.
• Coordinate with municipalities, conservation authorities, review agencies, clients, developers, and other stakeholders to advance projects through the approval process.
• Provide technical guidance, quality control, and senior-level review of analyses, models, designs, drawings, and reports prepared by project teams.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and EITs by providing technical guidance, coaching, and opportunities for cross-training and professional growth.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate water resources requirements into broader land development and infrastructure designs.
• Support project management activities, including scope development, budgets, schedules, resource planning, deliverables, and client communications.
• Contribute to proposals, business development initiatives, client relationships, and the continued growth of GEI's Water Resources practice.

Minimum Qualifications

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 5–10+ years of progressive professional experience in water resources engineering, preferably within a consulting environment with significant exposure to land development and/or municipal infrastructure projects.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario.
• Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, drainage design, water balance, and applicable Ontario design standards and approval requirements.
• Demonstrated experience with industry-standard hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software such as PCSWMM, Visual OTTHYMO, and HEC-RAS. Experience with HEC-RAS 2D hydraulic modelling is considered an asset.
• Proficiency in dual drainage modelling in PCSWMM is required.
• Baseline proficiency in single event modelling in Visual OTTHYMO is expected.
• Experience completing feature-based water balances using continuous event modelling in Visual OTTHYMO is considered an asset.
• Experience with Civil 3D and familiarity with ArcGIS/GIS applications is considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of water resources requirements associated with greenfield development, intensification, redevelopment, and municipal infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise, and technically sound engineering reports, memoranda, calculations, specifications, and approval submissions.
• Ability to provide technical direction, mentor junior staff, coordinate multidisciplinary assignments, and manage competing project priorities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, municipalities, conservation authorities, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams.
