Job description

Job title: Senior User Experience Designer

Location: Evans Hunt - Remote

Reports to

The Senior User Experience Designer will report to the Head of Customer Experience.

Location

This position will report to our Calgary office, but we are open to being remote across Canada.

Job overview

At Evans Hunt, we aim to create powerful, positive experiences that combine strategy, creativity, and technology. As a Senior UX Designer, you have the experience and acumen to balance business and user needs. As an addition to our Customer Experience team, you will extend our capabilities, build internal capacity, and push the status quo. That’s how we create compelling websites and products that drive business value and demonstrate clear ease of use.

Who we're looking for

Your 5+ years of UX design experience have given you the ability to work with a human-centred lens and create more meaningful digital experiences. You believe in a collaborative, multidisciplinary project approach and know that diverse perspectives lead to stronger work.

If the person below sounds like you, you should definitely apply.

  • You have a deep understanding of the iterative user experience design process. You know how to think ahead to see how solutions will function across different devices and for disparate audiences.
  • You're proficient in software like Figma, Miro, JIRA, Confluence, and Notion for workshopping, designing, and prototyping. Bonus marks if you’re using AI for ideation and prototyping. You also understand and have experience with agile work processes.
  • You're collaborative. You love solving complex design problems and understand how your work fits with other disciplines, including writing, visual design, technology, research, and data. You also understand how to use the UX design process to create team alignment and stakeholder consensus.
  • You communicate design decisions and user insights clearly and persuasively to cross-functional teams, leadership, and clients. You adapt your communication style to suit technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You're flexible. You know when to hold your ground and when to adapt your approach or recommendations based on feedback. You win the hearts and minds of clients by helping them ask the right questions, probing when necessary, and developing tailored strategies.

A day in the life

orking at an agency, you'll have the opportunity to work simultaneously with various clients across a range of industries. One day, you might be studying the needs of job-seekers for a review site with over 50 million unique monthly visitors. Another day, you might explore how the needs of international and Canadian travellers differ and how to localize their online experience. No two days are the same.

That said, here are a few activities that will likely take up most of your time:

  • Lead the user experience work for multiple clients, and advocate for those clients' users every step of the way.
  • Act as a mentor to junior user experience designers.
  • Create organizing principles, user flows, and site maps.
  • Sketch, wireframe, design, and prototype user experience solutions.
  • Test your work to improve results for our clients.
  • Lead clients and customers in rapid design labs and workshops.

What's in it for you

Evans Hunt is a full-service digital agency focused on the integration of strategy, creative, and technology. Our experienced team of 90+ employees delivers fully integrated marketing solutions for top national and international organizations. We're a fun place that does good work. Here's what we're offering:

  • Salary range: $90-110K (subject to experience level).
  • Benefits: You’ll be on our plan and will receive extended health and dental benefits, a health spending account, and GRSP matching.
  • Culture & lifestyle: We're an agency, and we work hard, but life is also for living. We strive to provide a respectful and inclusive workplace that welcomes everyone. We're also not much for micromanaging–you'll have a lot of flexibility to deliver great work in ways that make sense to you.
  • Office availability: Our Calgary office is an amenity, not a mandate. It’s there for you whenever you’d like.
  • Stuff: A laptop and a phone allowance will be provided.

What we'll ask

There are a couple of things we'll ask for as part of the hiring process:

  • Cover letter: Tell us a little about yourself and your fit for the job (it's true that companies don't look at applications that don't include cover letters).
  • Portfolio/case study presentation: If you make it to the interview stage, we'll request that you present your portfolio and/or applicable case studies.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Evans Hunt embraces and encourages the differences and characteristics that make our employees unique. The rich perspectives that result from diversity promote innovation and business success and make us more creative, flexible, productive, and competitive. These differences are an important part of our culture, reputation, and achievements. At Evans Hunt, diversity is a fact; equity and inclusion are choices we make as individuals and leaders.
