Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an experienced, creative, and motivated Senior Urban Planner – Transportation to support our Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering group in Ontario. The candidate will support local and national projects, working with industry-leading planners, engineers, and mobility specialists across North America.

This role involves developing transportation policies, stakeholder collaboration, data analysis, and impact assessments through an equity lens. Candidates should have a strong understanding of urban transportation planning principles and good communication skills. You will play a key role in shaping transportation systems to support sustainable growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead complex transportation planning assignments
• Use knowledge of provincial and local planning policies for public sector studies
• Contribute to transportation projects, including feasibility studies, environmental assessments, functional plans, and preliminary designs
• Facilitate public workshops
• Analyze socioeconomic impacts of transportation infrastructure using planning, land use, and equity principles
• Leverage Ontario municipal infrastructure delivery experience for strategic planning
• Serve as GIS lead, managing project scope, schedule, and budget
• Utilize geospatial technologies to meet client needs and oversee implementation
• Engage with GIS teams and stay updated on new tools and practices
• Support multidisciplinary teams including planners, architects, and engineers
• Analyze data such as equity data, census, crash records, and performance metrics
• Additional technical expertise in urban design, land economics, transportation planning, or public engagement is an asset
• Identify potential project problems proactively

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of urban planning, design principles, climate resilience, and development economics
• Experience with transportation policy development and land use planning
• Experience in Ontario transportation engineering and planning, including active transportation facilities
• Knowledge of Ontario municipal infrastructure project planning from conception to delivery
• Proficiency in GIS/data analysis, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related tools
• Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written
• Valid driver’s license with a good record
• Degree in engineering, urban planning, economics, geography, or related field; Master’s preferred
• Minimum 10 years of relevant planning experience, ideally with Ontario municipalities

Additional Information

This is a casual, temporary position with potential travel (up to 10%). Work involves office and site visits, sometimes outdoors. Responsibilities may evolve.
