Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Legal Counsel to handle a wide range of upstream oil and gas matters in Canada. You will interpret, draft, and negotiate complex upstream commercial agreements and provide strategic legal guidance across internal teams.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of relevant upstream oil and gas legal experience.
  • Experience with commercial transactions, contract negotiation and drafting.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and Alberta upstream regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret, draft, and negotiate upstream commercial agreements (e.g., joint operating, farm-in/out, royalty, unit, etc.).
  • Provide legal guidance to internal partners and diverse teams on regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Lead due diligence and research for upstream projects and acquisitions/divestitures.
