Senior Underwriting Specialist - Senior Complex Accounts

Hybrid Opportunity - 2 days in office

Downtown Toronto

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriting Specialist to support their large complex portfolio. In this role, you will lead complex risk assessments, develop customized underwriting strategies, and serve as a trusted advisor to key clients and internal stakeholders. Your deep industry knowledge and analytical acumen will help shape underwriting decisions that align with their business goals and client needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite large, complex, or unique risks within strategic accounts.
  • Collaborate with account managers, actuaries, and legal teams to structure innovative solutions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal partners.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and recommend adjustments to underwriting guidelines.
  • Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives, including product development and process improvement.
  • Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to knowledge-sharing across the team.

Knowledge, skills, and experience

  • A University degree, advanced insurance-related certifications like CIP or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of underwriting experience, with a focus on large or strategic accounts.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management abilities.
  • Proficiency in underwriting tools, risk modeling, and data analysis platforms.
  • High ethical standards, adherence to industry regulations and guidelines, and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Strong negotiation skills, adaptability to changing market conditions and underwriting guidelines, and ability to handle multiple underwriting files simultaneously.
