A leading boutique commercial insurer is seeking an Underwriter to join their Technology Practice in Toronto. This role focuses on underwriting Tech E&O/Cyber and requires cultivating relationships with brokers, generating new business, and managing existing accounts. Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years of underwriting experience and the ability to negotiate effectively. This is a unique opportunity for growth in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as an underwriter.
  • Bilingual (English and French) is an asset.
  • CIP / CRM or equivalent designation is an asset.
  • In-depth understanding of P&C and/or Tech E&O/Cyber is an asset.

Position Summary :

The Technology Practice at Berkley is responsible for underwriting Tech E&O / Cyber, General Liability and Property Insurance for Technology companies. This position is critical to the successful execution of the business unit’s strategic plan and is an opportunity to take an underwriting career to the next level. It requires someone who is analytical, creative and personable. Focusing on producing new business, in this market facing role you will be responsible for cultivating relationships with key Technology brokers across Canada.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with brokers supporting Technology business with a focus on providing superior service, adding value, and differentiating Berkley among it’s competitors
  • Prospect business and generate desirable new submission flow
  • Underwrite submissions ensuring proper risk selection, policy construction and pricing
  • Negotiate deals with broker partners independently and seek support where required
  • Manage and grow an existing book of business by balancing retention, rate, capacity expansion and cross sale
  • Collaborate with other departments on new and existing business, ensuring we provide a seamless experience across the company
  • Stay up-to-date on underwriting guidelines and strategies. Adhere to your letter of authority and escalate any items outside of it
  • Assist in the development of strategic plans for the Technology team and execute on those objectives
  • Stay informed and up-to-date on any changes, trends, and industry developments that may impact the Technology practice, including attending industry events
  • Embody and promote Berkley Canada’s collaborative and innovative culture to ensure professional success individually and for the team

  • Qualifications

    Requirements :

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as an underwriter
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual (English and French) an asset
  • In-depth understanding of P&C and / or Tech E&O / Cyber an asset
  • CIP / CRM or equivalent designation an asset
  • Keen interest in pursuing an underwriting career focused on Technology companies
  • Track record of meeting deadlines and working with a sense of urgency and ownership
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as negotiation abilities
  • Team player with a willingness to think outside the box
