Job summary

Global Aerospace Underwriting Managers (Canada) Limited seeks an experienced aviation underwriting professional to lead and service profitable insurance business under the direction of the Underwriting Director. The role remains in an established underwriting team that is currently unoccupied, with Canada-wide travel and a strong emphasis on broker relationships.

Qualifications

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in aviation insurance underwriting, broking or similar specialty.
• Knowledge of coverage for Commercial Hull, Commercial Liability, Private Aircraft and General Liability classes.
• Experience managing insurance programs and portfolios.
• Strong communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
• Bilingual English/French preferred for client and broker interactions.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate new and renewal business against underwriting standards and rating criteria.
• Provide timely, professional service to clients and brokers via the Underwriting Support team.
• Build relationships with aviation brokers and Global Canada clients to communicate underwriting philosophy and value proposition.
• Drive new business opportunities through broker/channel strategies.
• Support portfolio optimization and product development efforts with leadership input.
• Mentor and develop Underwriters and Support staff; participate in industry conferences and client meetings.

Global is a full service agency with authority for underwriting and claims delegated to Global by its participating Pool members.

Position Summary:

Under the leadership of the Underwriting Director, this position will produce and service profitable, sustainable aviation insurance business in accordance with the Company underwriting and compliance guidelines.

This position is an established role within the underwriting department, which is currently unoccupied.

The expected compensation for this position falls within the annual range of $125,000-$160,000, which is subject to evaluation of combined skills, knowledge and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review & evaluate all new and renewal business to determine it meets Global Canada’s Underwriting standards/guidelines and rating criteria.
• Provide ongoing, expedient professional service and advice for new and renewing customers, utilizing the Underwriting Support team.
• Build and develop strong, visible professional relationships with aviation insurance brokers and Global Canada clients associated with the assigned book of business and potential new business opportunities, ensuring consistent communication of Global Canada’s Underwriting philosophies and value proposition.
• Drive new business opportunities externally and organically via periodic reviews of broker and channel strategies.
• Assist Underwriting Director in strategic review and optimization of Underwriting Portfolio.
• Analyze competitive market activity, industry trends, and broker feedback, while also providing strategic recommendations on product enhancements, underwriting appetite, and pricing initiatives to support profitable growth.
• Monitor team workload distribution and collaborate with management to ensure efficient resource allocation and service standards are maintained.
• Manage the performance, profitability, and growth of volume-based aviation products and programs, including Drone, PB&P, and portal-distributed business, while supporting product development and underwriting optimization initiatives.
• Participate in the mentoring and development of other Underwriters and Underwriting Support team members.
• Attendance at Industry conferences, seminars, broker, and client meetings to enhance the Global brand.
• Support development/preparation of Global branded marketing materials, thought leadership documents and presentation of such materials as necessary.

Education & Training:

• Post secondary education
• Relevant aviation related qualifications and/or training preferred
• Insurance industry experience or designations considered an asset (e.g., CIP or CRM).

Experience Qualifications & Key Skills:

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an aviation insurance underwriting, broking or a similar specialty insurance or risk management background.
• Knowledge of insurance coverage, policy terminology etc. for Commercial Hull, Commercial Liability, Private Aircraft and General Liability classes.
• Management and oversight of Insurance Programs.
• Ability to understand, interpret, communicate, apply underwriting and administrative policies/procedures.
• Strong organization, negotiation, analytical, communication, presentation and customer service skills.
• French and English language skills, both oral and written preferred, as the individual will be interacting with clients, policy holders, brokers in both English and French.
• High attention to detail and capability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Strong knowledge of insurance regulatory framework in Canada.
• Ability to work well in a small team, manage conflict, conduct difficult conversations and deal with issues in a positive and courteous manner.
• Keen interest or passion for Aviation.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

• The role is performed on a hybrid basis in a standard office environment and home-based work.
• Frequent travel within Canada and occasional travel to the US.
