Zurich Canada is currently seeking a Senior Financial Lines Underwriter to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, interact with the market, and work with limited supervision, using The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of moderate technical complexity, ensuring high service levels to customers.

What you will do

1. Use strong analytical skills to manage and develop accounts in accordance with Zurich guidelines.
2. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
3. Maintain a strong broker network and conduct broker/customer visits with clear purpose.
4. Foster, develop, and maintain relationships with broker partners and customers, taking a solution-oriented approach.
5. Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density for comprehensive Zurich solutions.
6. Provide guidance to lower-level associates as needed.
7. Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
8. Demonstrate continuous learning and curiosity to grow within Zurich’s Construction unit and the industry.
9. Develop and lead marketing presentations to new and current agents/brokers.
10. Participate in business projects to enhance Zurich’s offerings and improve business processes.
11. Attend Sales Team meetings related to assigned brokers and territories.
12. Engage in ad-hoc projects as needed.

Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table

Required:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 6+ years in claims or underwriting support, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4+ years in claims or underwriting support.

• Knowledge of lines of business and regulatory guidelines.
• Understanding of time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years in commercial P&C underwriting.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• French language skills (mandatory for Montreal office applicants).
• English proficiency (mandatory for Montreal office applicants).
