Full Job Description

We are seeking an immediate hire for a power system engineer. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and support all aspects of transmission studies, including power flow, voltage stability, transient stability, and other power system analyses. Familiarity with PSS/E or TARA is required. Candidates with a Master's or Ph.D. in Power Systems will be given preference. Relocation assistance will be considered.

Responsibilities

1. Perform power system analysis for transmission systems at 138 kV and above, including power flow, voltage stability, transient stability, and short circuit analyses.
2. Prepare steady state, short circuit, and dynamic models.
3. Support senior engineers in preparing technical reports.
4. Provide technical consultations and oversee the process of new interconnection requests throughout the planning cycle.
5. Conduct and review system impact studies, analyzing steady-state load flow and transient stability performance, reactive planning, load interconnection studies, and mitigation planning.
6. Use PSS/E and TARA to conduct voltage ride-through and critical clearing time analysis for generator interconnection studies related to renewable energy projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in power systems analysis using PSS/E, TSAT, or PSLF.
• Knowledge of electric power systems, including synchronous generators, motors, power electronic inverters, wind turbines, and solar energy systems.
• Experience with transmission studies involving power flow, voltage stability, and other analyses.
• Proficiency with PSSE software, including modules for load flow, short-circuit, and transient stability analysis. Experience with TARA, PSLF, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools is highly desirable.
• Background in static and dynamic modeling of power system components such as HVDC, VSC, STATCOM, and TCSC in PSS/E or DSA tools.
• Model development experience and knowledge of IPLAN and/or Python programming is an asset.
• Understanding of transmission system reliability and interconnection processes.
• Experience with ISO transmission stability analysis is a significant plus.
• Knowledge of the ISO cluster interconnection process.
• Basic understanding of substation layout, protection, and control.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
